How to care for your new quartz worktop

The new kitchen is in, the colour scheme is perfect, the soft-close doors and drawers are a dream, and the quartz worktop is gleaming. We all want our new kitchens to look this ‘box-fresh’ forever, so here’s our guide on how to care for your new quartz worktop to keep it tip top.

Care guide for your quartz worktop

Use a gentle cleaning agent

If you can, clean up spills as soon as they happen and use mild, pH-neutral cleaning agents with a damp cloth (soft, not abrasive) to clean the surface. Harsh chemicals can damage the surface, dulling its lovely sheen, causing discolouration, and damaging the resin in the quartz.

Always use your chopping board

With quartz being a harder material than metal, some knives can leave a metal residue on your worktop. Always grab your board, and you’ll have no issue.

Take care with hard and heavy items

Quartz is a durable and strong product, but a very hard or heavy item dropped on the surface could damage it.

Avoid ‘Natural stone cleaners’

These products are designed for surfaces like marble and granite, which are porous. Used on quartz, you’ll find they leave a buildup of product on the worktop surface, which can be challenging to clean off.

Protect your quartz worktop from intense heat

Quartz worktops are very robust and have a high heat resistance, but sudden changes in temperature can cause thermal shock. To avoid this, always use heat pads for hot items coming out of the oven or off the hob.

Are you considering quartz worktops for your new kitchen?

Quartz is a great choice for a kitchen worktop. Looking after it isn’t onerous; it is less porous than granite or marble, making it more hygienic, stain-resistant and less likely to chip or mark. Not only is it robust, looks elegant, but it also comes in a wide range of colours and patterns, making it an absolute favourite with our customers.
