28 Feb Do I need a home bar in my new kitchen?
If you love entertaining or unwinding after a long week with your favourite tipple, then yes, yes you do need a home bar! Now that dry January is a distant memory, the days are getting a little longer, and evenings are starting to get a little lighter; we’re starting to feel more inclined to host and socialise. How about you? Having the right set-up at home makes entertaining a breeze.
Display your favourite bottles and glassware
With open shelves, glass-fronted cabinets or hanging racks, you can choose what bottles and glassware you want to hand and on display. There are so many beautiful spirits bottles now, aren’t there? It would be a shame for some of them not to have the spotlight!
Antiqued glass behind your bottles and glassware will add real glamour to your home bar set up too.
Incorporate a dual-zone wine cooler
With temperature-controlled zones for your bottles that need to be kept chilled and those that need to be kept temperate, a dual-zone wine cooler is a must-have if you love your wine and love to enjoy it with friends and family.
We love the wine coolers from Dunavox (pictured), especially the models which store the bottles front-on or side-on so you can easily see the labels and have your special bottles on display.
Make it a wet bar and add a sink
If you really want to take your drinks prep up another level, incorporate a sink, and you can clean up as you go – or even better, make it a Quooker CUBE, and you’ll have sparkling water on tap for your cocktails!
Storage for the items you don’t want on display
There are, of course, less handsome bar items than beautiful gin bottles, so incorporate a proper cupboard or drawers for the mixers, clutter and cleaning items, all the things you want on hand but not necessarily on display when your guests arrive.
We like push-to-open drawers, and then if your hands are full or sticky from drink prep, it’s a quick push with your hip to grab what you need.
Have some fun and add a Kaelo
A Kaelo is a built-in wine cooler for a single bottle. It is fitted into your worktop and keeps that bottle you just opened perfectly chilled and to hand. It’s a fantastic bit of kit and works especially well when integrated into your island.
We love the Kaelo in this Spacious Farmhouse in Uckfield project, this kitchen is ready to entertain at a moment’s notice!
