For this lovely annexe the brief was simple; modernise the space whilst ensuring it tied in with colours and style of the adjoining living room. In addition to housing guests and family, the new annexe kitchen will be used as an extension to the kitchen in the main house when our customers entertain. As regular hosts who entertain a lot, a large oven was high on the wish list.
The starting point for our design was the colour scheme and an extra wide oven which is needed so the kitchen can be utilised when the family is catering for large numbers. The colour scheme was decided early on when our customer fell in love with the colour & handles featured on a display kitchen in our showroom when walking past the window! So the new kitchen was specified in the same ‘mountain heather’ colour and Crofts & Assinder brushed copper handles. To create contrast and to ensure the space still felt and spacious, the tall units are a light grey.
Although a narrow galley kitchen in style, there is no compromise on features and appliances. To keep an uncluttered feel, all the appliances are integrated apart from the extra wide oven. Neatly concealed behind these lay-shaker doors is a dishwasher, fridge and washing machine!
At a hefty 90cm wide, this Smeg oven is the hero feature in this kitchen. Do you know the real reason it needed to be this wide? Well 90cm facilitates two proper french baguettes to lie side by side for our host’s signature garlic bread!
Providing contrast to the heather and light grey units is the granite worktop in ‘hailstorm’, we love the pattern it brings into this elegant scheme.
