To create a lighter and more homely open plan kitchen area for a modern home, but without changing the layout.
As young professionals working in creative industries, our customers were looking for a grown up socialising and entertaining space. They particularly wanted a more timeless style that would suit them and their lifestyles for years to come.
This is a stylish, modern home with plenty of natural light so we chose the classic combination of a dark grey shaker kitchen in Caithness Slate with a Konigstone ‘Bianco Altissimo’ white quartz top. The smooth painted style in deep grey delivers that more timeless feel, but the white quartz bounces light around the space and prevents the kitchen from feeling dark. This is a really great combination if you want a bit of drama in your colour scheme but are concerned about light.
The previous kitchen did not have an island but we thought this was a must have in an open plan kitchen designed for entertaining! To make it even more fit for purpose, we incorporated a Caple wine cooler too.
Another feature that helps create a more homely feel in this design is the mantel which contains the Falmec hood. This is designed to look more like a chimney mantel rather than contemporary hood. We love the character this adds to the space.
The kitchen design is completed with Neff appliances (including the slide and hide door which we absolutely love!) and Crofts and Assinder handles in chrome.
To help create that open plan feel and make the flooring practical for a keen outdoorsy couple with a dog, we recommended Karndean flooring throughout. The flooring was continued into the hallway which really adds to the flow between the two spaces.
The island was a real hit on this project because our customers didn’t think they’d have room for one! As well as being a completely practical feature, it really contributes to the classic style of the kitchen. We especially love the tongue and groove panelling used on the island and integrated fridge freezer which adds more character to the space.
