To create a stylish new kitchen to utilise the current space better, and make it a much more flexible space for entertaining. The customer wanted something light, timeless and low maintenance to keep clean. In addition, our new classic kitchen design had to complement the existing floor.
The old kitchen had a large peninsula which divided the space awkwardly and overall, the design looked dated. A dark granite work surface in particular was a feature the customer wished to change.
We designed a classic shaker kitchen in a porcelain colour, with a contrasting stone coloured kitchen island. The colour scheme brightened the whole space and the deeper tone on the island created a stylish centerpiece. In addition, the kitchen island resulted in a much more flexible space than the original peninsula. This new layout enables the family to access the whole kitchen more easily. On top of this, the island is a natural focal point for guests to congregate around.
For the tiling, we opted for a darker shade metro tile. Metro tiles are a customer favourite and it is because they just work so well with all design styles. This darker tone on these tiles adds a great contrast to the cabinets, work surface and floor.
The kitchen actually opens out into the dining area so to integrate the two spaces better, we matched the carcass and new work surface to the oak dining room table. The 50ml square edge laminate is used on the work surface, island, breakfast bar and window sill, really creating a cohesive feel to the whole kitchen and dining space.
The final detail which really pulls the whole space together is the stylish three-pronged pendant lamp. It is a real design statement which complements the colour scheme and kitchen style perfectly.
‘’Thank you Rachael for our lovely kitchen, we’re very happy – you’ve done an amazing job.’’
