Following a building project where the existing kitchen had been knocked through into a large double garage to create a much larger open-plan space, our customers came to us with a brief to create a spacious and practical kitchen with adjoining utility and boot room for a busy young family.
Together with the customers, we designed an in-frame kitchen with beautiful beading and in a neutral colour palette to give it a classic style. The whole kitchen is painted in ‘Quarry dust’, which we love. (For fans of Farrow & Ball’s Elephant’s Breath, this has the same lovely, timeless feel). To keep the scheme pared back and elegant, we used antiqued mirrored glass for the splashback.
Maximising storage and worktop space was key to this brief and the island became integral to the design. It is a huge island, using a single slab of quartz (in Konigstone Ontario) and provides a large worktop area, plenty of storage and a breakfast bar for the family, making it the real hub of the open-plan space.
To elegantly incorporate the TV into the design, we created a media area and nook for the TV to hang. This is a great way to include a TV in your kitchen design with no compromise on the overall aesthetic.
This kitchen is fully loaded with a SubZero fridge-freezer, Quooker tap, NEFF ovens and a NEFF integrated coffee machine.
For the utility and boot room, we continued the style and colour scheme to create consistency and flow between the kitchen and these two rooms but instead of in-frame, we used lay-on shaker doors. In both utility spaces, there is a combination of concealed and open storage, which is a great way to keep what you need to hand but get all the other clutter behind closed doors!
And finally, the lovely bench seat in the boot room is oak.
With using such a large piece of quartz for the island, it was important to support it fully where it overhangs to create the breakfast bar. However, the support needed to allow for the bar stools to tuck in under the overhang.
We designed and built a bespoke supporting plinth that would offer the central support, blend in with the design and accommodate the bar stools.
