About This Project

Brief

The brief for this kitchen was to make better use of the space and to make the room feel lighter. The old kitchen had a peninsula, which they felt zoned the space awkwardly and restricted their use of the room. For their new kitchen, they wanted the peninsula removed, a new range cooker and a large larder cupboard for storage.  To help maintain a clear worktop, they also asked for the microwave to be housed in a wall unit.

For the design style, they wanted a traditional lay-on shaker to complement the character of the room.

Our bespoke kitchen design

The Classic Deluxe Rangemaster in Racing Green was the first element of the new kitchen that our customers fell in love with and inspired the whole colour scheme. The kitchen is painted in a pale, cool green called Morven Scree, with oak carcasses, the cup handles and knobs are in brass, and the Quooker Cube tap is in patinated brass.

The pale green has a lovely timeless quality, and the tongue and groove panelling is right at home in this farmhouse kitchen. The worktops, splashbacks, upstands and window sills are the ever-popular Konigstone Ontario quartz, which also helps create a lovely, light, airy feel.

One of the big decisions early on was whether to change the flooring or not. The original floor was made of quarry tiles, which looked fitting for a farmhouse-style kitchen, but the clients found it very cold. The lure of underfloor heating won! Wood effect tiles in Ashwood Grey Oak were chosen, which complement the room beautifully and still keep the space feeling light.

This kitchen has lower ceilings than standard height, so several elements had to be bespoke to ensure they fitted the space perfectly, including the fridge, which had to be made lower, the canopy for the Falmec extractor and the larder cupboard. Our clients didn’t think they could have the fridge where they wanted it because of the ceiling height. It is such an advantage not to be restricted to standard sizing when designing for older properties!

All in the detail

This kitchen features a short staircase providing access to the main living space on the level up and the basement on the level down. Originally, the bannister was made of pine and had got quite rickety making it feel quite unsafe.

As part of this project, we designed and manufactured a completely new bannister for much better value than what our clients had been previously quoted for.

Low ceilings, wonky walls, sloping floors, we’ve designed around them all! If you have an older, traditional property that needs a more bespoke approach, email us at info@kitchensbespoke.co.uk to book your design consultation. Don’t forget to browse our Projects home page for more inspiration.
