To create a light, airy kitchen diner with a Scandinavian feel to it.
In order to make the space as practical as possible for cooking and entertaining, our clients also requested two dishwashers and two sinks to be incorporated.
Lastly, we were asked to design a workstation to integrate with the new kitchen. The house has a lovely home office already but a workstation set up in the new kitchen would enable both of them to work from home flexibly during lockdown and beyond.
The original kitchen & dining room was in an L-shaped room. Early on in the design process, we worked with our clients to design an extension that would square the room off and provide much more space for the open-plan layout. The new U-shape kitchen with an island works really well here, creating a sociable kitchen & dining area.
To maximise the sense of space and create a more Scandinavian feel, we designed a contemporary handleless kitchen in white. The main kitchen is a smooth painted chalk white but the island is in partridge grey to provide some contrast. The result is a modern, fresh and elegant space, and it works so well in this house. The glass splashback and Carrara Venato quartz worktop complement the colour scheme and contribute to the airy feel by reflecting lots of light too.
For the two sinks, we incorporated a prep sink on the island with a Quooker Fusion tap and then the main sink overlooking the garden is an Abode professional spray tap. In addition to the main fridge freezer and wine cooler, there is also a built-under integrated fridge next to the hob. This is a great idea if you have the space for it.
Floating shelves with integrated LED lighting were handmade by our fitting team to match the contemporary design of the kitchen. Lit up and dressed, these shelves are a really stylish addition to the design.
The integrated workstation blends into the whole scheme, without detracting from the main entertaining space. It has proven to be a really practical and user-friendly addition to this open-plan scheme.
