This is a lovely characterful home, brimming with original features such as parquet flooring and considered furniture choices that combine to create a beautifully cohesive and timeless interior style.
The brief was to create a classic kitchen with lots of worktop area and storage space, and for it to look in keeping with the interior style throughout the house, but make it dramatic!
The space designated for the kitchen was previously a living area with a mezzanine above, so we had a lot of freedom to configure the kitchen as best suited to the room, rather than working within an existing footprint.
There is a design and build challenge with putting a kitchen in a room that wasn’t designed to be one, so we worked closely with the client’s contractor to ensure the services and power supplies were well considered and managed, and that the installation was seamless.
The room is now a multi-zoned kitchen, dining and living space, and the kitchen works so well in the space. It is a Clarendon in-frame shaker kitchen by Second Nature in Graphite with a woodgrain finish. The graphite colour scheme on the kitchen and large island against the white walls and quartz worktops really delivers on the drama.
The quartz worktops are a customer favourite, Konigstone Bianca Isola, which is a beautiful grey-veined quartz which matches the graphite colour scheme perfectly. The final touch to the aesthetics but always so important is the fixtures and fittings. We used Crofts and Assinder handles and knobs on the doors in a brushed satin nickel finish, which are just stunning. They have the most luxurious soft sheen to them, elevating the whole design.
Functionality is always the basis for any kitchen design, but it was especially important to this family, where one of the clients runs a foodie pub and is used to the conveniences and practicalities of a well-run commercial kitchen, so the kitchen at home had to be just as efficient. Having ample worktop and storage space is key to this design.
This kitchen features a Quooker tap, an 1810 Company undermounted sink, BORA M Pure hob, and NEFF appliances, including a Slide ‘n’ Hide oven, warming drawer and microwave.
The whole space is designed for open-plan living and is now the real hub of the home for the family.
One of the clever details in the kitchen that we love is the dresser unit. To keep worktops clear in line with the brief we designed a bespoke dresser unit with bifold doors. The clients can now tuck small appliances and clutter into the unit, keeping the worktops tidy and clear.
